Abeer is a tall aroma lamp blown by mouth in our Cairo workshop: a twisted clear stem, a coloured bowl with hand-painted gold leaves, and a removable top cup for water and a few drops of essential oil over a tealight. The curved glass dropper arm is part of the piece — a reservoir that feeds the cup drop by drop, so a single filling scents a room for the whole evening. It takes wax melts as easily as oils.

Made of heat-resistant borosilicate glass, finished with hand-applied 24K liquid gold, and sold at a price that still leaves room for a boutique margin. Home-fragrance brands pair it with their own oils, spas use it in treatment rooms, and gift shops put it in the window. Every piece is slightly different; that is the signature of hand work.
