Egyptian Glass Mabkhara — Rawda · Lidded, Engraved Blossom on Crystal Stem, 25 cm (Model 103)

A garden engraved on glass — the lidded mabkhara that reads as a perfume bottle until the smoke rises.

Rawda, “garden”, is a lidded mabkhara whose globe is wheel-engraved with a frosted spray of blossoms and leaves, highlighted in 24K gold. The globe tapers into a slender gold-ringed chimney that lets the smoke out in a single thread, and it sits in a scalloped, gold-edged dish on a twisted crystal stem. Lift the globe by its neck and the dish below holds the charcoal.

It is the most ornate piece in the lidded range and the one that photographs best, which is why bakhoor brands use it for Ramadan campaigns and gift boxes. On a dressing table it works as decor between uses; in the majlis it is the centrepiece.

Each piece is mouth-blown, engraved and gilded by hand in our Cairo workshop; the engraving varies slightly from piece to piece — the signature of the craft.
