Egyptian Glass Bakhoor Jar — Sukkar · Lidded on Crystal Stem, 25 cm (Model 100)
The jar that sells with every mabkhara — bakhoor in the Gulf, dates and sweets everywhere else.
Sukkar, “sugar”, is a lidded globe jar raised on a twisted crystal stem, hand-painted with gold trails and finished with a gilded finial. In the majlis it keeps the bakhoor and oud chips beside the burner, ready for the next guest; on the Ramadan table it holds dates or sweets; in a gift shop it is the candy jar customers buy for the shelf.
It is the third piece in nearly every bakhoor gift set we make, because a burner needs a jar beside it. Retailers order it in the same colour as their mabkhara for a matched pair, or mixed for a shelf of colour.
Each jar is mouth-blown and painted by hand in our Cairo workshop; small differences in brushwork and tint are the signature of the craft.
